2011 Bills

SB 429 (DeSaulnier) - This bill, which is sponsored by State Superintendent Tom Torlakson, would increase flexibility for ASES and 21st CCLC grantees with funding to operate during supplemental periods.

SB 614 (Kehoe) - This bill had specified that ASES programs may include age- and gender-appropriate self-defense training as a physical activity option.  The bill has been amended to strike ASES language and replace it with languatge unrelated to afterschool.

SB 737 (Walters) - Among other provisions not specifically related to after-school programs, this bill would increase the number of hours an ASES program may operate without being subject to child care licensing requirements from 30 to 60 per week.  The bill is sponsored by the California State Alliance of YMCAs.
