AB 626 (Skinner) – The portion relevant to after school is just one small piece of a larger school nutrition bill.  As it pertains to after-school programs, this bill would require ASES providers to agree that meals made available by the program conform to the same specified nutrition standards that already apply to snacks.

SB 464 (Jackson) – This bill would establish nutrition and physical activity standards for child care and afterschool programs conducted under the Child Care and Development Services Act (which includes ASES and 21st CCLC programs).  This reflects recommendations from First Lady Michelle Obama and her campaign to promote nutrition and physical activity for children.  In its current form, it includes requirements for after school programs of 60 minutes of physical activity; no TV/movies; limited screen time; fruits/vegetables; access to healthy drinks.  The bill is likely to be amended to merely encourage these guidelines.
